FAITH FOR THE FUTURE BUILDING REPORT

Dear Members, Friends and Family of Kihei Baptist Chapel,

PRAISE THE LORD!!! This last week, we finally receive our Building Permit. After over 2 years and a half of countless hours of paperwork preparation, planning, meetings, and a 6 foot tall file, we have all the documentation required to build our new sanctuary. However, since January, we have been working on the site preparation and we are making progress on the new worship center.

-  The footprint of the building has been completed with three feet of compacted stone, and it has been inspected.

- We are working on the construction rods that are part of the footings for the building. When they are in place and inspected, we can pour the footings.

- Rough-in plumbing and electrical that go in the floor will be installed.

- Additional fill will be added and compacted, then the floors can be poured and walls can begin being built.

- We are ordering structural materials - trusses, decking, and roofing.

- We are working on the sound system, windows, colored windows, carpeting, paint colors, office layout, etc., for the inside of the building.

Please keep praying for the building program and for an additional $500,000 to be given to this program as we build during this calendar year. Thank you for praying and supporting this major work for our Lord. God has both a local and global ministry for our church!

FAITH FOR THE FUTURE BUILDING REPORT

Dear Members, Friends and Family of Kihei Baptist Chapel,

I just returned from the last meeting scheduled with the Maui County Planning Department. This meeting follows months of meetings, planning, designing, drawings, studies and state-wide reviews of our plans. We actually officially began this work in August of 2005, twenty-three months ago. Count-ing the advanced planning before we hired consultants, architects and engineers, it has taken us over two years to get to this final meeting.

The meeting was very successful with little opposition. Two neighbors out of nearly three hundred who officially were invited to ask questions, solicit information or register complaints did so. These neighbors wrote a formal letter to the planning department making proposed considerations regarding visual sight walls, possible noise concerns, parking lot lights and construction details. They were also present in our meeting in support of our church building. All four of the issues were addressed personally and in written form by our SMA consultant, William Spence Company. Agreements were already made with the Planning Department regarding our willingness to meet the conditions they wanted to attach to our building approval.

Three actions were taken by the Planning Commission: 1) To approve our request for special use needed for building on the property. 2) Approval of our Shoreline Management Association study and 3) Approval for our request to recommend the change in zoning for the church property from residential to public/quasi-public. There were no negative votes for any of the requests.

We are very thankful to the Lord for guiding us to the William Spence Company as well as to Anthony Riecke-Gonzales and Danny Yu-Cua of the Riecke Sunnland Kono Architects. These people guided us to all the additional consulting firms we needed to move us through two years of complicated reviews by over seventeen different study groups.

The time taken to get this far has been much longer than I expected. I really thought we could get the building permits within one year and have the construction finished in the second year. This is normal planning procedures and has worked for over twenty church-related building programs I have guided.

God has His own timing for us, as He does for everyone, and He is never in a hurry.  During this waiting time we have been able to do a lot of the planning needed before construction and the Lord has given us over $1,800,000 toward the cost of building.  We are still about 2-3 months away from obtaining permission to begin the new facilities.

Thank you for your prayers and support of the Lord’s work through Kihei Baptist--a local church with a global ministry!

WOW!!!

WHAT GOD HAS DONE AND WHAT IS YET TO DO:

A major financial gift was given to the church Faith For The Future Building Fund. The gifts received this week bring the total to $1,789,117. One stipulation for receiving this major contribution to The Lord's work here at Kihei Baptist is that we honor our commitment to raise $500,000.00 to match a similar amount of the gift. We presently have $77,957 given toward our commitment and $422,043 left to be raised as we approach the time of construction.

NEW CHURCH BUILDING UPDATE

Your continued prayers and support of our Faith for the Future Building Program is more vital now than ever. It is difficult to keep a congregation encouraged for a future building over a long period of time. The best way to do this is to let everyone know the progress being made. The following are some of the steps left to take before we are issued a building permit:

1. We will meet with the Kihei Association for their second look at our project.

2. We will meet again with the County Planning Department to obtain their permission to advertise to the public that we intend to build our church building.

3. We must advertise pubicly for 30 days that we are to build and set a date for a public meeting 30 days following our advertisement.

4. We will meet again with the County Planning Department for their approval of our plans and for permission to submit our architectural plans to the building department.

5. The County Building Department acting on the Planning Department recommendation will consider and review our plans and make any recommendations.

6. Following a satisfactory review by the Building Department along with the Planning Department we could be presented with an approval for a Building Permit. When this is obtained, we may begin construction.

7. We currently are in the process of obtaining the needed equipment for construction, pricing various parts of the building, planning what assistance we will need with possible local contractors, shipping, bids, site development, improvements, etc. We are making good progress. It is just difficult to keep everyone informed of our progress.

8. The Faith for the Future Building Fund is now at $901,011. With matching funds we are only $49,000 from reaching ONE MILLION DOLLARS! The matching fund gift of $500,000 makes every gift to the buiding program double in value; and with our goal of paying cash as we build, it actually triples its value by keeping us from paying interest on a loan.

9. In all the conversation about our building fund, it is vital to remind ourselves that it is all working because God is moving in the hearts of people rather than to think it is because of anything we are doing.

Pastor Glenn's Message

Dear Friends In Christ,

For the next two years, God has guided my wife, Fran, and I to lead Kihei Baptist into aggressive growth ministry.

We have served the Lord for over fifty years together as pastor and wife in four churches. All four churches experienced God's blessing in a major growth, including twelve church building programs.

At this time, we have outgrown our present chapel. We have gone to two services during peak times in the year. While these adjustments have been helpful, a full church ministry awaits the completion of additional facilities.

Our plans call for a new auditorium that may expanded into four large adult classrooms, a needed fellowship hall, rest rooms, church and minister's offices.

These goals are very large for a small congregation. However, we do have a very large God, and a lot of wonderful Christian friends who share in the burden for Kihei Baptist. We count on a large prayer base to make the "impossible" possible.

Financially, there are few places more expensive to construct than on the island of Maui. It is clear that we need everyone interested in Kihei Baptist to join in prayer and financial contributions to make this new building a reality to the glory of God!

Thank you for your interest in the Lord's work,

Glenn Armstrong, Pastor
